Some people were meant to be in a movie together. We think Tina Fey and Steve Carell are two such people and DATE NIGHT proves just how much fun it is to have them together. The new comedy starts this Friday.
We are holding the thriller based on the best selling book, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO for one more week.
Our special showings of REMEMBERING PLAYLAND were a smash success and people are begging us to bring it back. There was nothing quite like the experience at each showing as people told their own stories of going to Playland…the laughs, thrills and chills. They also brought their kids and grandchildren to find out what it was all about.
We have decided to bring the feature documentary back for a full week’s regular engagement starting Friday, April 23. There will be a spectacular display in our lobby. More about that next week but plan to join us April 23-29.
The Balboa is becoming THE home for special events and your response has been incredible. In the next few weeks we will be having the exclusive Bay Area showing of a very special 1989 Grateful Dead concert film and a once-in-a-lifetime Tribute to author Barry Gifford with many authors joining Gifford. Presented by City Lights Bookstore so you know it will be special. Advance tickets will be available for both programs.

On the outer Balboa strip there are 24 eating establishments by my count. You can eat Chinese, Japanese, Egyptian, Italian, American, Mexican, Seafood and Vietnamese cuisines. The foods are fresh, distinctive and all reasonably priced. The media food critics have only discovered a few of them but the locals know a good thing. We encourage you to enjoy a meal at one of these fine eateries while visiting the Balboa. All are within easy walking distance.
